The manual version of the Challenger Hellcat stood out as one of the most extravagant vehicles of our time. Imagine having a 717 horsepower supercharged V8 engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission – a combination that truly captivated aficionados of all things Mopar. Unfortunately, Dodge left numerous enthusiasts heartbroken when they removed the manual option in 2021. However, as per a Dodge dealership in Virginia, the manual transmission is making a comeback for the 2023 model year, providing a thrilling send-off to this modern classic.

According to a report from Road & Track, Dodge discreetly eliminated the manual transmission option for the Challenger Hellcat in 2021, citing the need for powertrain recalibration and assuring its temporary absence. It appears that Dodge has completed the recalibration process, as Koons Tysons Corner Dodge announced on Hellcat forums that the manual transmission is back in play, with available allocations and orders already being accepted.

If you attempt to configure your Hellcat with a manual transmission on Dodge’s website, you won’t find the option available. The sole transmission choice listed on Dodge’s configurator for the Hellcat is the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic. Yet, Koons Tysons Corner advises interested buyers to use the online configurator to specify their desired specifications, then forward the PDF to the dealership with a manual transmission request. The dealership affirms that the manual transmission is accessible for both standard and Widebody models, with the first five orders eligible for purchase at MSRP. Several forum members have claimed to have received confirmations for manual Hellcat orders.

The Drive contacted Stellantis to confirm the revival of the manual Hellcat and its availability for ordering. A Stellantis representative stated: “The Dodge Challenger Hellcat with manual transmission is now available, albeit in limited production quantities. Customers can utilize the Dodge Horsepower Locator tool at DodgeGarage.com to locate a dealership with remaining Challenger Hellcat allocations and proceed to place an order for a Challenger Hellcat with a manual transmission.”

Dodge will be discontinuing the Challenger Hellcat after the 2023 model year, marking the conclusion of one of the most remarkable American cars of this era. Characterized by its powerhouse V8 engine, rear-wheel-drive platform, and classic muscle car appeal, the Challenger Hellcat represented a modern interpretation of traditional American automotive culture. Thus, it is only fitting that Dodge is reintroducing the manual transmission for one final farewell ride.
