The 2024 Volkswagen ID Buzz EV, now available for purchase in the United States after much anticipation, draws inspiration from the classic VW Microbus design while incorporating modern features. With a 91-kilowatt-hour battery and the option for dual motors, this vehicle is tailored for a contemporary audience with a fondness for nostalgia. Designed specifically for the American market, this model offers increased space for both passengers and cargo, including a convenient folding third row.

Unlike its predecessors, known for their leisurely acceleration, this electric version packs a punch with 282 horsepower in rear-wheel-drive configuration and around 330 horsepower for the all-wheel-drive model, delivering up to 406 pound-feet of torque. While the US acceleration figures have not been officially revealed, it is expected to outperform the European version’s 10.2 seconds from 0 to 60 mph, powered by 201 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque.

Currently, other regions only offer the two-row variant with a shorter wheelbase, equipped with an 82-kWh battery and a top speed of 90 mph. In contrast, the US model can reach speeds of up to 99 mph.

Emphasizing comfort, convenience, and cargo space, Volkswagen has furnished the interior with perforated faux-leather seating offering 12-way power adjustment for both driver and front passenger. Features include dual armrests, ventilated massage seats with memory settings, heated front and second-row seats, standard automatic climate control, a heated steering wheel, and dedicated air vents for each row. Official interior dimensions are yet to be disclosed by VW.

The second-row bench seating is split 60/40, accessible through dual power-sliding rear doors. The vehicle is equipped with a power-operated tailgate that can be opened with a simple foot gesture under the rear bumper, facilitating easy loading and unloading of cargo. Additionally, the center console between the front seats is removable for convenience, ensuring you don’t leave it behind during your outings.

The third row provides ample space and convenient access once the second row is folded forward, though headroom may be limited for taller individuals. To maximize cargo space, the rear seats are a 50/50 split and can be easily removed, each weighing approximately 30 lbs according to VW. Reclining the seats can be a bit tricky, requiring reaching behind to pull a red tag.
