The Honda Civic has long been regarded as a straightforward and dependable vehicle in the automotive world. Designed primarily for reliable and efficient transportation, it has seen various sporty iterations, yet remains rooted in its economical origins. However, the EG Honda Civic, modified by CLM Motorsports in Woodbridge, New Jersey, and referred to as “Section 8,” presents a remarkable departure from this norm.

What began as a simple three-door hatchback has been transformed into an impressive hot rod capable of completing a quarter mile in under 8 seconds. This modification kicks off with a new powertrain; the original 1.5-liter single-cam four-cylinder engine has been replaced with a 2.0-liter K20 inline four engine featuring a block from JBR Engines, a 4P Pro TSX ported cylinder head, and a 72mm turbocharger. The upgraded engine is paired with a PPG dog box transmission.

The engine replacement is merely the start of the upgrades. This vehicle boasts an all-wheel drive system, which CLM Motorsports developed using “Honda parts from various models.” They estimate that this Civic generates between 1,300 to 1,400 horsepower. Distributing this significant power to all four wheels has allowed Section 8 to set a world record as the first all-wheel drive Honda to achieve a seven-second quarter-mile run.

In its best performance, showcased in the video below, the Civic clocked a quarter mile in just 7.88 seconds at a speed of 186.77 mph. Despite the immense power packed into such a small frame, the car appears notably stable, likely aided by the all-wheel drive system and wide tires.

Throughout the year, CLM Motorsports has been working tirelessly to break the seven-second barrier. Witnessing the excitement of the team and driver upon reaching this milestone has been inspiring. They have expressed their intention to continue enhancing Section 8’s horsepower and reducing its quarter-mile times.
