Jaguar has officially claimed the title of the fastest production sedan to navigate the Nürburgring with its XE SV Project 8. Equipped with a powerful 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine producing 592 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, this high-performance sedan achieved an impressive lap time of 7:21.23. This puts it on par with renowned sports cars like the Ferrari 488 GTB and the Chevy Corvette C6 Z06. The XE SV’s time surpasses the previous record set by the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, which completed the course in a less impressive 7:32.

It’s important to clarify that while this is the fastest production sedan, it is not the quickest four-door car to ever complete the Nürburgring. That title goes to the Subaru WRX STI Type RA NBR Special, which remarkably finished with a lap time of 6:58.9. However, this vehicle was a one-off, purpose-built track car that is not available for public sale.

The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 is indeed a production car, but its availability is extremely limited, with only 300 units being made. Priced at $192,000, this vehicle is a luxury that only a select few can afford. In contrast, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio remains the fastest sedan accessible to the average consumer and is notably less expensive, costing less than half the price of the Jaguar.

While the primary motivation for the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 may be to showcase performance credentials, achieving the record is a significant feat. Kudos to Jaguar for not only setting this new standard but also overshadowing the previous record holder..
