When an automaker develops a track-ready version of an already high-performance hypercar, it’s a safe bet that the result will be exceptionally exhilarating. The McLaren P1 LM, a street-legal variant of the P1 GTR race car, was crafted by Lazante, the team responsible for the legendary F1 GTRs. With a staggering 986 horsepower and a lighter frame compared to the standard model, the P1 LM certainly fits the extreme performance category. Recent footage has surfaced that showcases this powerhouse in action at the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

A YouTube video released on Thursday captures the McLaren P1 LM aggressively tackling the challenging Green Hell. While the exact purpose of its presence on the Nordschleife remains unclear—other than being driven to its limits—it appears to be an exhilarating experience. The audio is equally impressive, making for a delightful spectacle.

In August 2016, Autocar hinted at the potential for the P1 LM to set a Nurburgring lap record, and this video could very well demonstrate that ambition.

Dean Lanzante, head of Lazante, stated, “We’ve seen what the road car is capable of there and we’ve got simulations of what our car can do. Kenny Bräck is doing all of the driving, so if an opportunity arose, we have the right man for the job,” as reported by Autocar.

Although McLaren has yet to announce an official lap time for the standard P1 at the Nordschleife, it has indicated that the vehicle could complete the course in under seven minutes. As it stands, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante holds the record with a time of 6:52.01..
