Merely a few months have passed since Lotus introduced the electrifying Evija hypercar, and the British firm wastes no time in revealing its final production specifications. Alongside the hypercar’s premiere at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China, Lotus showcased video footage of their inaugural production prototype gracefully drifting around a British airfield with eerie silence.

Lotus targets 2,000 metric horsepower, equivalent to approximately 1,972 traditional horses, from its electric drivetrain supplied by Williams. Consequently, the Evija strives to claim the title of the most potent production road car when it commences production in 2020. Before that time arrives, however, the company must undertake extensive testing, with a production prototype currently undergoing testing.

Lotus plans to transport the Evija, with its vast Venturi tunnels, to various testing circuits across Europe, including the brand’s homestead track in Hethel, U.K. Additionally, Evija prototypes are primed to venture onto public roads for real-world quality evaluations over the upcoming months.

The Lotus Evija is reportedly capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in well under three seconds and reaching 186 mph in under nine. Promising a range of 250 miles, this British electric hypercar can recharge from empty to full in merely nine minutes using an 800 kW ultra-fast charger.

And if you’re curious about the “ALIVE” message on the auto show display, Lotus’ press release emphasizes that the Evija has been designed specifically “For The Drivers.” Observing the banner from the driver’s seat looking in the rear-view mirror, its significance becomes clear. The mature side of us hopes that the Evija moniker wasn’t chosen solely for this clever setup, but a small part of us secretly wishes otherwise.

We eagerly await the opportunity to take the wheel.
