The 2019 Chicago Auto Show is just around the corner, and attendees can look forward to various pickup truck announcements, including an upgraded Ford Super Duty and a new iteration of the Toyota Tacoma. Additionally, Ram Trucks is expected to make a significant announcement regarding a highly anticipated new tailgate design.
In a playful tweet addressing GMC’s innovative MultiPro tailgate, Ram’s social media team linked their message to the Super Bowl weekend by referencing a football play and mentioning February 7, 2019, the first media day of the Chicago Auto Show.
In a prior phase, before the debut of the 2019 Ram 1500, there were spy photos featuring a distinctive tailgate on a new truck model. A patent application suggested a split tailgate design for Ram, though it was unclear if this innovation would be released alongside the truck. Many speculated that Ram was simply securing the patent rights without intending to bring the concept to the market.
However, the excitement surrounding GMC’s tailgate announcement has led to speculation that Ram may indeed have something in the works. Although it remains mere speculation at this point, Ram’s reference to GMC’s creative tailgate hints at the possibility of an inventive new tailgate being introduced at the upcoming auto show, potentially making a mark as the North American Truck of the Year.
We won’t have to wait long to find out..
