There is no greater unease than leaving your beloved car in the hands of a dealership service center. Personally, the thought of the day when my aging hands can no longer twist a wrench and I’m forced to entrust my pride and joy to someone else for repair terrifies me. That’s when things are bound to go wrong. Wrong, like a fresh off the lot 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 taking a nose dive off a garage lift.
It appears that the latest-generation Corvettes have been dropping off elevators like it’s nobody’s business. Since these beauties hit the market, there’s been a consistent occurrence of these mid-engined sports cars being hoisted incorrectly, with painful results. While the Corvette itself is blameless, it seems that technicians accustomed to lifting front-engined vehicles and compensating for the weight distribution up front might be caught off guard by the mid-engined layout of the ‘Vette. To be honest, being a dealership tech is no walk in the park.
This is glaringly evident in the video footage from the dealership. It vividly captures the moment when the lift post on the passenger side gave way, sending the Corvette on a gravity-defying trip downwards. The post tore through the Z06 bodywork effortlessly, crashed into the roof structure, and left its mark from the door to the fender as the traumatized ‘Vette slid backwards to a halt. Meanwhile, the posts on the driver’s side kept the car company below, potentially causing damage to the undercarriage.
While specifics are scant, Carscoops reports that the vehicle had not yet been handed over to its owner at the time of the accident. Images shared by Street FX Motorsports on Facebook indicated that this particular car was devoid of a license plate and showcased damage on the passenger side. The window frame sustained a significant blow, and the composite bodywork suffered severe lacerations.
Although the damage doesn’t seem fatal, it’s definitely not a sight for sore eyes. The future of this Z06 remains uncertain, but let’s keep our fingers crossed that it undergoes a revival with a fresh exterior.
