- An executive at Cadillac expressed the brand’s aspiration for an ultra-performance car
- No official confirmation has been given regarding the development of an ultra-performance car
- Cadillac is dedicated to achieving a fully electric lineup by 2030, while still offering gas-powered vehicles
General Motors is interested in creating a Cadillac ultra-performance car, as mentioned by an executive in a recent interview with Australia’s Drive. However, no confirmation has been provided regarding the actual progress of such a project.
“Is it possible for us to develop one? Absolutely. Do we desire to? Yes. Is one currently in development? Revealing that would give away too much,” stated GM’s design chief, Mike Simcoe, emphasizing that “Cadillac remains committed to high performance,” whether through traditional combustion engines or electric powertrains.

Introducing a road-ready ultra-performance car would enhance the prominence of Cadillac’s Blackwing performance series, complementing the brand’s involvement in motorsports. The Cadillac V-Series.R prototype competes in prestigious events like the FIA World Endurance Championship, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
While Cadillac had aspirations to venture into Formula 1 through a collaboration with Andretti Global, initial attempts were rebuffed by organizers. However, there’s potential for an Andretti/Cadillac entry in 2028 if Cadillac is able to develop its own F1 power unit by then. Initial plans included the use of a Renault power unit with Cadillac branding.
Teaser for Cadillac Opulent Velocity concept
An ultra-performance car would mark a significant departure for Cadillac, although there are precedents. Around the early 2000s, Cadillac toyed with a similar concept when unveiling the Cien prototype in 2002. The Cien showcased a mid-mounted V-12 engine but unfortunately never progressed to production.
Presently, Cadillac has confirmed plans for a concept that showcases the evolution of the V-Series performance sub-brand towards an electric future. Named the Opulent Velocity, this concept is set to be revealed later this year. The name suggests a fusion of luxury and performance, indicating that the Opulent Velocity might not align entirely with the performance-centric ultra-car discussed by Simcoe.
