Peugeot Inception concept: The electric mobility of the future
The Peugeot Inception concept embodies PEUGEOT’s hopeful vision for the sustainable mobility in the future. Initially revealed at CES in Las Vegas, it will be presented to the French audience for the first time at VivaTech 2024.
Showcasing a fresh design language that celebrates its feline and captivating demeanor, its revolutionary interior layout, and its commitment to offering unparalleled driving experiences, the Peugeot Inception concept paves the way for the future electric vehicles of the brand.
The Peugeot Inception concept reinterprets the essence of the brand, ushering into a new age of design. It is more straightforward and cleaner, featuring finishes and textures befitting the digital realm. This novel design oscillates between sensual contours and athletic curves, more geometric and defined.
The 100% electric Peugeot Inception concept is powered by 800 V technology. Its 100 kWh battery enables it to cover a distance of 800 km on a single charge.
The interior of the Inception Concept boasts an array of innovative techniques that Peugeot will employ to uphold the STELLANTIS commitment of reducing its carbon footprint by over 50% by 2030 compared to 2021, ultimately achieving complete Carbon Net Zero by 2038:
Fabricated textiles: Reusing 100% polyester fabric scraps from the design center’s prototyping workshops or suppliers, these are thermo-compressed under vacuum and injected with a binder in the form of a replenished resin. This highly robust and durable material can be transformed into structural or décor components.
Velvet fused with 3D printing: The seat and floor upholstery is crafted from a distinctive 100% recycled polyester velvet, extending onto the floor with 3D-patterned prints serving as a floor mat.
Air Quilting® padding: The seat’s comfort is heightened by real adjustable mattresses at shoulder level. This electro-welded, single-material upholstery, easy to recycle, is crafted from inflatable pockets retrieved from traditional seats.
The iconic Peugeot i-Cockpit® reimagined with Hypersquare
Having equipped over 12 million models in the last 12 years, the Peugeot i-Cockpit® symbolizes Peugeot’s dedication to innovation in customer satisfaction and driving pleasure, as demonstrated by the remarkable latest iteration of the Panoramic i-Cockpit® featured in the new Peugeot E-3008 and E-5008.
The Peugeot Inception concept introduces the next generation of i-Cockpit®, sporting a completely revamped layout that replaces the traditional steering wheel and control stalks with the Hypersquare steering control, inspired by elements from the digital and video game realms.
The Hypersquare introduces a novel intuitive gesture, simpler and more user-friendly. Through a simple click or touch of the fingertips, without needing to release their grasp on the steering control, the driver can manage all the vehicle’s settings. The Hypersquare is animated by steer-by-wire technology, making driving more instinctual and straightforward.
Complementing the Hypersquare steering control is a flexible display transmitting driving or infotainment details in a 360-degree manner. This HALO CLUSTER, with its circular screen, delivers information to the driver and passengers as they approach the vehicle. This external communication reinforces the concept of sharing and a fresh vision for automobiles.
The Hypersquare, equipped with digital electric controls, features a screen with circular cells at each of its four corners, each serving multiple purposes:
- The entirely natural and universally understood grip of the steering control.
- The convenience of fingertip driving.
- The activation of vehicle functions through simple thumb impulses.
Drivers experience a gesture akin to their daily smartphone usage. This intuitive element enhances safety levels.
At the core of the Hypersquare lies a tablet-like screen exclusively displaying control information. The various functions (air conditioning, radio volume, driving aids, etc.) are presented on the twin side components for easy access to the desired command. This command resides within the circular cells and can be operated by moving the thumb only, without releasing the steering control. Ensuring even greater driving comfort, the surroundings of the Hypersquare are crafted using 3D printing, while the central digital glass screen exudes a futuristic and sophisticated appearance.
Peugeot’s Hypersquare, in conjunction with the upcoming generation of i-Cockpit®, poised to revolutionize the thrill and delight of driving, is slated to be integrated into the brand’s forthcoming vehicles by 2026.
Data and connected services with Mobilisights
Present at VivaTech 2024, Peugeot introduces Mobilisights. The Stellantis Business Unit specializing in Data as a Service (DaaS) offers access to telemetry data from connected PEUGEOT vehicles and other group brands.
The information gathered by Mobilisights fosters personalization of the driver’s experience via innovative services and applications from a third-party partner ecosystem, aimed at enhancing the daily lives of drivers, always and solely with their approval.
For example, Mobilisights data can be harnessed to develop user-friendly applications for electric vehicle owners facilitating charging, precise cost tracking, and elevating the user experience.
“Remote driving” with Vay
Peugeot welcomes its partner, the scale-up Vay, at its stand during VivaTech 2024, where Peugeot delves into the possibilities of “remote driving.”
“Remote driving” entails the remote control and operation of a vehicle. This advancement streamlines the management of multiple vehicles with just one remotely stationed driver employing cellular connectivity and integrated vehicle cameras.
At VivaTech 2024, Peugeot unveils a “telestation” at its stand empowering Vay’s extensively trained and certified “teledrivers” to drive remotely by overseeing steering, braking, and acceleration operations. The telestation provides a real-time perspective of the vehicle’s surroundings, guaranteeing a fully immersive and responsive control.
This advancement enhances operational efficiency for delivery services, facilitates ‘click-a-button, get-a-car’ amenities for carsharing and car rental, and empowers private vehicle owners to have their car remotely relocated as and when required.
