A new model, identified as a special edition BMW M2, has recently appeared in the ordering system used by American BMW dealerships, as reported by BMW Blog.

This model, known internally as ZL9, will be designated the 2017 M2 M Performance Edition. This exclusive variant of the entry-level M car will come with a sticker price of $61,695, while the standard M2 currently retails for $51,700. The production of this special edition will be limited to just 150 units, according to BMW Blog.

The M Performance Edition will feature a range of simplified and more lightweight options compared to the standard M2. These include a basic keyless entry system, manually adjustable sport seats, black mirror covers, a standard radio, and a manual transmission as the sole option. Additionally, the car will incorporate features from the BMW M Performance Parts catalog, such as performance coil-over suspension, an option for a performance exhaust, black side gill trim, black kidney grilles, illuminated door sills, and LED door projectors. All vehicles in this edition will be painted white and will include the M Driver’s Package.

While recent sightings of test vehicles at the Nürburgring have indicated the presence of what appears to be a new, more powerful M2, sources from BMW Blog assert that this special edition is a distinct model.

BMW has not yet provided a comment on the matter.

UPDATE (Feb. 17, 3:35 p.m. EST): A spokesperson from BMW confirmed to The Drive that a new special edition M2 is indeed forthcoming. A screenshot of that confirmation email, detailing the new vehicle, is available below.
