An intriguing video has emerged showcasing a potential future Ferrari hypercar roaming the streets of Maranello, shedding some light on what may become the next flagship model from the renowned Italian manufacturer. Despite being clad in camouflage, giving little away about its design, it seems the hypercar could be propelled by a turbocharged, hybrid V6 powertrain.
Captured by the YouTube content creator Varryx, the footage showcases a heavily disguised Ferrari featuring elements reminiscent of various models like the LaFerrari in the cabin, 296 GTB in the front lights, and SF90 in the rear, along with an imposing fixed rear spoiler not seen on any previous models. These cues indicate the car being tested possesses noteworthy performance capabilities, with the prominent high-voltage labels confirming its hybrid nature.
While the sound of the engine is audible in the video, it lacks the distinctive V12 symphony, concealing the exact number of cylinders. However, clues from Ferrari’s previous statements suggest that this hypercar may deviate from the traditional V12 configuration.
According to a report from Auto Express, during last year’s Capital Markets Day presentation, Ferrari indicated that their upcoming hybrid models will exclusively feature V6 and V8 powerplants, reserving V12 engines for their pure internal combustion engine models. Moreover, the presentation hinted at the utilization of technology derived from Formula 1 and Ferrari’s Le Mans Hypercar, both employing turbocharged, hybrid V6 setups. Given the distinct sound characteristics, this prototype aligns more closely with expectations of a V6 configuration rather than a V8.
If Ferrari indeed proceeds with a hypercar devoid of a V12 engine, it would mark the first flagship model from the marquee to forego a V12 powerplant since the departure of the F40 from production three decades ago. Additionally, it would introduce an unprecedented paradigm of a Ferrari flagship powered by a six-cylinder engine. While venturing into uncharted territory for Ferrari, the pedigree derived from top-tier racing technologies provides assurance that the outcome is more likely to emulate a successful roll-out rather than encountering challenges reminiscent of past endeavors in the automotive industry.
