Set to make its debut in the coming months, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq-V, the luxury automaker’s premier electric performance vehicle, may not dazzle enthusiasts with added power similar to the Tesla Plaid or even the standard Lyriq. A recent report suggests that the Lyriq-V will not see an increase in power, potentially indicating Cadillac’s ongoing struggle with maintaining brand integrity.
Currently, the Lyriq offers options for rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, with the latter delivering 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. This setup enables the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a respectable 4.6 seconds. According to GM Authority, the Lyriq-V will not receive a power boost, instead focusing on enhancing its chassis performance.
Speculations point to the Lyriq-V receiving upgraded Brembo brakes, active damping, a lowered ride height, and revised styling that underscores its V series persona. Despite these enhancements, no power increase is anticipated. The power output of the Lyriq is likely constrained by its battery capacity, which is half the size of the more potent GMC Hummer EV, resulting in lower output. The limitation in battery power stems from the principle that extracting higher power outputs generates excess heat, which could have adverse effects on battery longevity. Interestingly, a higher-powered variant of the Lyriq is reportedly available in the Chinese market, featuring a superior 524 lb-ft torque.
The exact release date of the Lyriq-V remains uncertain; however, a leak from Cadillac’s official accessories website hints at a 2024 model year launch. This could mean that the launch is imminent, considering the 2024 model’s reported commencement of production in March. The prospects of a more high-performance Blackwing variant seem dubious given the absence of power upgrades in the V model. The potential introduction of Blackwing EVs was already tentative, and it appears that an answer to this uncertainty may be delayed further.
