If you’re a fan of the Subaru WRX STI and have always desired a convertible variant, your wishes have been granted. A particular vehicle has emerged for sale at Patriot Nissan of Salem, New Hampshire. This isn’t the first time this car has been offered for sale.

The car in question is a 2011 Subaru WRX STI sporting a custom convertible top. It houses a 2.5L flat four engine generating 305 horsepower from the factory. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and Subaru’s renowned all-wheel-drive system, the vehicle comes in Plasma Blue Pearl color with a Carbon Black interior.

The conversion to a convertible was completed by Newport Specialty Cars in California. Reportedly, only a handful of convertible STI models were manufactured by the company. This particular unit is stated to be one of the remaining four, as the fifth one was involved in an accident.

It’s a relatively simple transformation, where the sedan’s roof was removed to attain the convertible layout. Notably, the B pillar is still intact, resulting in a less streamlined appearance. Nevertheless, there seems to be some rollover protection remaining, offering reassurance to spirited drivers.

The convertible’s compact rear window is further obscured by the sizable rear wing of the STI. However, on a vehicle like this, the convertible roof primarily serves as protection from unexpected rain. It’s primarily designed for open-air driving with a soundtrack of boxer engine notes while enjoying the cheers of friends in the rear seats. Those seeking a more enclosed driving experience would be better off with the standard hardtop model.

With a price tag of $59,980 and 11,433 miles on the odometer, the listing describes the convertible as a “single-owner” vehicle. Interestingly, this very same car was listed for sale back in 2017 with less than 10,000 miles on it, priced at just $26,967. It’s possible that the car didn’t sell in 2017 and remained with the same owner, but it’s worth mentioning.

$60,000 seems like a steep asking price for a ten-year-old STI, especially for a modified one. Used vehicle prices continue to be inflated, but witnessing a price double over five years for an aging car seems excessive. It would be a significant investment even for a pristine, showroom-condition model from the same year.

If you desire a WRX STI convertible and need one immediately, this car may be your sole choice. However, if you have $60,000 to spare and some time, you could likely have a new body convertible version built for the same price. The decision is yours!
