Many Tesla Cybertruck owners are treating the vehicle’s durable stainless steel body as a canvas for vinyl wraps, leading to an array of creative designs, from solid colors to video game themes. One of the most unconventional options is the “Cyber Squire,” which pays homage to Ford’s classic woody station wagons—a design that took many by surprise.
The Cyber Squire was spotted at a mall in Grand Junction, Colorado, capturing even more attention than a typical Cybertruck. Wrapped to mimic the Ford Country Squire, a full-size station wagon famous for its wood trim, this retro trend made a comeback in the 2000s, especially seen in vehicles like the Chrysler PT Cruiser. Though the trend waned, its peculiar revival through the Cybertruck has been unexpected.
I spoke with the wrap’s designer, Tara McDonald, who explained that the owner provided her with a photo of the Country Squire and requested that their Tesla be styled similarly. McDonald noted that she “took some creative liberties” to ensure it looked as though it were designed specifically for the Cybertruck.
This involved creating new front and rear fascias, adapting the wood paneling to align with the Cybertruck’s design, and incorporating fine details throughout the wrap. McDonald expressed pride in an aspect that may not be fully appreciated in photographs.
“It’s difficult to capture in photos, but all the chrome accents were created with chrome vinyl,” McDonald explained. “The headlights and taillights are coated with reflective vinyl, giving the effect that they illuminate at night.”
The intricate design involves layering three different types of films, including chrome and reflective vinyl. Some elements required printing in segments, enhancing the detailed look of the wrap that is more apparent in person than through photographs. McDonald mentioned that her client was “ecstatic” with the wrap and plans to take his Cybertruck on a lengthy road trip from Arizona to Washington to showcase it. As with any custom design, reactions to the wrap may vary widely.
