The intense competition in automotive horsepower over the last ten years has set high expectations among car enthusiasts. With tuning shops extracting over 1,000 horsepower from seemingly stock vehicles, it requires something exceptional to truly amaze the crowd. Enter the new record of 250.27 mph achieved in a twin-turbo Lamborghini Huracan during a half-mile run at an airstrip in North Carolina—an achievement that certainly stands out.

Tuned by the experts at Underground Racing, this Huracan’s 5.2-liter V-10 engine is believed to produce nearly 3,000 horsepower at the crankshaft. Known for significantly amplifying the Huracan’s factory power through their twin-turbo kits and engine enhancements, UGR claims to have created some of the world’s fastest street-legal Lamborghinis. This particular model resembles the one showcased at TX2K17, where it dominated the quarter-mile races.

What is especially impressive about this yellow Huracan, along with many of UGR’s builds, is its unmodified appearance. While many shops can create fast drag cars featuring noticeable modifications, it takes exceptional skill and engineering to construct a vehicle capable of safely achieving speeds over 200 mph without any bold exterior changes. Remarkably, it doesn’t even require a parachute.

The record-breaking run was piloted by speed enthusiast Gidi Chamdi, who set a half-mile record of 240 mph in an Underground Racing-modified Lamborghini Gallardo last summer. Chamdi saw his record surpassed in September by another Huracan reaching 247 mph, and later by a Nissan GT-R hitting 248 mph just two months ago. Thus, he was keen to reclaim the title at WannaGoFast’s shootout held at Stanly County Airport in New London, North Carolina, this weekend, which he succeeded in by achieving an astounding 250.27 mph.

To put this milestone in context, at that speed, the Huracan covers more distance than a football field every second.

It is important to note that this record pertains specifically to street-legal vehicles. While a top fuel dragster could undoubtedly outrun this Lambo, it would likely compromise the engine in the process of racing a half mile as opposed to the customary quarter mile.

Additionally, Underground Racing showcased an Audi R8 V10 Plus during the event, which recorded a respectable speed of 244.80 mph. However, with such extraordinary performances, it is becoming increasingly challenging to maintain the same level of record-breaking feats. Nevertheless, enthusiasts remain eager for the next thrilling development in automotive speed..
