Toyota Land Cruiser and Sequoia Among the Most Durable Cars on the Road

In a comprehensive analysis, ISeeCars investigated millions of cars produced over the last two decades to identify the models most likely to withstand high mileage. Their study yielded valuable insights into which cars offer the best return on investment in terms of durability.

Based on the data analysis, Toyota emerges as one of the most dependable automakers. The top positions in the longevity ranking are predominantly held by Toyota models, with the Sequoia and Land Cruiser securing the top two spots with nearly 300,000 miles of potential lifespan. Toyota also claims 10 positions in the top 20 vehicles list.

Among the top 10 vehicles with the longest lifespan in the study, half are SUVs. Additionally, two hybrids from Toyota, followed by two pickups and one sedan, make up the list. Import brands dominate with seven vehicles, while the rest belong to General Motors.

Toyota continues its dominance in the SUV category with the Sequoia and Land Cruiser retaining their top positions. The Highlander Hybrid and 4Runner also showcase enduring longevity.

General Motors entries include the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL in the third and fourth spots, respectively. The Chevrolet Tahoe ranks fifth, with the Yukon closing in at ninth. Ford and Honda make appearances with the Expedition at sixth place and the Honda Pilot rounding out the list.

For pickup enthusiasts, Toyota shines with the Tundra and Tacoma claiming the top spots, with the Honda Ridgeline following closely behind in second place.

In fourth place stands the Nissan Titan with a remarkable performance,ranked amidst the esteemed Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500. Following suit is the Ford Ranger in the eighth spot, succeeded by the Nissan Frontier, and finally, the Ram 1500 secures the tenth position among pickups.

The sedan category often appears overlooked, given the automotive industry’s recent emphasis on crossovers. Despite this trend, there remain dependable sedan options available to consumers.

Leading the rankings is the Toyota Avalon. Toyota dominates this segment with entries like the Camry, Corolla, Lexus GS 350, and Lexus ES 350. Honda also boasts a strong presence with models such as the Accord, Civic, and the now-discontinued Fit. The Chevy Impala secures the second spot, while the Mazda 6 closes the list.

Once again, Toyota leads the way in the hybrid segment, securing the top four positions with the Prius, Highlander Hybrid, Camry Hybrid, and Lexus RX 450h. Hyundai and Kia make their debut on the list with the Sonata and Optima hybrids ranking fifth and sixth, respectively, followed by the Lincoln MKZ and Ford Fusion.

The final two spots are occupied by luxury brands. The Porsche Cayenne hybrid secures the ninth place, while the BMW 7 Series concludes the ranking.

ISeeCars conducted this study by analyzing approximately 2 million vehicles. The study encompassed 20 model years, ranging from 2002 to 2021, showcasing evident generational shifts in the data. Notably, heavy-duty vehicles were excluded from the study.

Within the compiled lists, a total of 55 vehicles met the criteria. Toyota and Lexus collectively held 16 spots, securing a leading position. General Motors followed with nine vehicles, Honda with eight, and Ford with seven. Other notable brands such as Nissan and Hyundai claimed four spots each, while BMW, Dodge, Mazda, Porsche, Ram, and Subaru each had one representative. Interestingly, out of the top 10 longest-lasting vehicles identified in the study, half belonged to the SUV category. Additionally, two Toyota hybrids and two pickups were included, along with a single sedan outlier. Seven of the vehicles were imports, while the rest belonged to General Motors’ lineup.
