Mercedes-Maybach knows how to cater to the ultra-rich and famous, hence this $170k SUV from the luxury arm of the company. The Maybach GLS is based on the regular GLS-Class SUV but, like its S-Class sibling, it gains a healthy dose of luxury, dropping the third row of seats in favor of ultra-luxurious second-row perches.
Its bi-turbo V8 delivers 550 horsepower and electrically-assisted torque through an EQ-Boost mild-hybrid system. You may not want to take it off-roading but its standard all-wheel drive system can handle some pretty tough conditions.
If the exterior styling doesn’t exactly thrill you, then the interior definitely will. With features like a refrigerated compartment for champagne, up to five choices of wood panel coloring that are all hand-finished, 27 speakers, and rear reclining seats set in a lounge-like environment, the Maybach GLS is the closest thing you’ll get to Business Class airline accommodations from Mercedes. And that $170,000 price tag is only the beginning as most buyers pay more for additional and customized features.
“To create the very best from the very best,” was the philosophy envisioned by brand founder Wilhelm Maybach, and with the Maybach GLS, he couldn’t have been more correct.
