The realm of automobile ingenuity knows no limits. While we frequently delve into the realm of extraordinary retro vehicles, such as a 1998 Mercedes E430 morphed into a death racer or a Volkswagen Beetle transformed into a pickup truck, the novelty of a New, Quirky Car is a rare and special delight. Amidst a world with cutting-edge 1,500-horsepower Yenko Camaros, there also exists creations like this: a 2024 Chevrolet Trax adorned in the style of a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.
Dubbed the Bandit Outlaw edition, this vehicle is set to go up for auction at Mecum Las Vegas next month. It seemingly stems from the same creators behind various Bandit Outlaw edition automobiles. It might not come as a surprise to discover the existence of a Chevy Silverado Bandit Outlaw and a Jeep Gladiator Bandit Outlaw. Interestingly, there doesn’t seem to be a specific owner associated with these vehicles, despite their shared features like the Bandit insignia and pinstriping. Furthermore, this seems unrelated to the Camaro-based Trans Am tribute constructions by Trans Am Specialties or Trans Am Worldwide.
Naturally, it pays homage to the iconic Smokey and the Bandit film, where the late Burt Reynolds portrays a bootlegger ferrying 400 cases of beer in a Pontiac Trans Am. Adorned in a black and gold livery to mirror the renowned movie vehicle, complete with the blazing bird on the hood. A distinctive touch is the hood’s molded-in power bulge. While the original Trans Am from the film lacked the “Bandit” label on the car’s side and the pinstriping seen on the Trax, let’s consider this a contemporary reimagining of the original design.
Aside from its flashy exterior, this Trax remains in its stock condition and is nearly brand new. With only 146 miles on its 1.2-liter turbo three-cylinder engine coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission, it could serve as an ideal daily commuter for those inclined towards a quirky sense of fun. After all, where else could you find a “one-of-one” Chevrolet Trax?
