February proved to be a prosperous period for Subaru, as it marked the seventh consecutive month of year-over-year growth. The 45,790 vehicles sold by Subaru last month showcased a 2.1 percent increase in sales compared to February 2022’s figure of 44,866 units. Notably, the Subaru WRX played a significant role in driving these exceptional sales figures, witnessing a staggering surge of 8,280.7% from the previous February.
In the preceding year, Subaru managed to sell merely 31 WRXs in the month of February, primarily clearing out old inventory in preparation for the next-generation WRX. The arrival of this next-gen WRX at dealerships in the spring of 2022, with its enhanced aesthetics, refined interior, and improved ride quality, evidently struck a chord with customers.

Jeff Walters, the senior vice president of sales at Subaru North America, commented on this achievement, stating, “Our strong performance in February marked our seventh successive monthly growth period. Enthusiasts of Subaru vehicles seek the thrill of adventure that our cars provide.”

In 2023, the pricing of the WRX witnessed a marginal increase, starting from $30,100 and rising to $31,625. It continues to be equipped with Subaru’s 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer engine, delivering 271 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The vehicle comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, while the ‘SPT’ CVT automatic transmission is available as an option. As customary with the WRX, all-wheel drive comes as a standard feature.

Although the Subaru WRX may not have been the most popular choice in the sports sedan segment, especially with contenders like the outstanding Honda Civic Si and Toyota GR Corolla gaining prominence, its resurgence in sales figures is commendable. The WRX continues to present an appealing option for automotive enthusiasts in search of a spirited daily driver within a similar price bracket.

Our review of the 2022 Subaru WRX at The Drive highlighted its newfound maturity, boasting a more refined ride quality and an upgraded interior. While this transformation may be perceived by some as Subaru’s softening approach, it appears to align well with the preferences of its customer base.
