The Nissan Hyper Force Concept: A Vision of Tomorrow’s GT-R Influenced by Gran Turismo

Starting with its striking design elements, the Hyper Force boasts a front end that extends a foot beyond the headlights, a “1000kW Advanced ASSB-4ORCE” decal near the rear wheels reminiscent of the old “Paul Newman” Skyline, and an overall monolithic presence resembling chiseled obsidian. This concept progresses from where Nissan’s Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo left off, a connection not to be overlooked.

In likeness to the nine-year-old design study, the Hyper Force collaborated with Polyphony Digital, the creators of Gran Turismo. Nissan sought Polyphony’s expertise for the Hyper Force’s visual interface, akin to their partnership on the original R35’s Multi Function Display. Gaming enthusiasts familiar with GT Sport or Gran Turismo 7 would recognize the identical font used in the concept’s digital displays, mirroring the game’s head-up display.

Polyphony has a rich history of shaping real-world car designs in collaboration with automakers, influencing the simulation racing experiences they craft. An example is the trailer released by Nissan in tandem with the Hyper Force, featuring the car in the Nürburgring Nordschleife and Special Stage Route X, powered by the Gran Turismo game engine. It’s likely that we’ll soon have the opportunity to drive this car in GT7.

Visions of its performance can be forecast based on Nissan’s highlighted features, more reminiscent of a mech than a conventional vehicle. Noteworthy are the 1,341-horsepower total output distributed to all four wheels, a dual-level rear diffuser, active canards and wing, and a “newly developed plasma actuator” that enhances grip and minimizes inner-wheel lift while cornering. Anticipate abundant power and exhilarating cornering abilities.

Reality check: none of this is tangible. Does Nissan possess the means to materialize it? Considering its dated vehicle lineup, probably not. Nevertheless, auto exhibitions and video games embody dreams as much as actuality, and the Hyper Force’s futuristic portrayal undeniably captivates attention. Should the future R36 GT-R mirror this spectacle, it will make a profound statement.
