“Volvo Car USA has communicated to retailers and preordered customers of the EX30 that, due to modifications in the global automotive scenario, the introduction of the EX30 in the US is postponed as we ramp up production in Ghent, Belgium, with an expected delivery target in 2025 to follow,” as stated by a Volvo representative to CarBuzz. Initially set for late 2024, the arrival of the EX30 is now postponed to the subsequent year. Volvo has not disclosed a specific timeline for the arrival of the EX30 in the US.

Reason Behind the Postponement

Although unexpected, the delay does not come as a surprise. Initial production plans for the EX30 were directed at Volvo’s Chinese factory, but recent tariff escalations under President Biden would likely render these vehicles too costly to yield profit. As an alternative, Volvo is holding off for production to commence in Ghent, Belgium to evade the 100% tariff on Chinese-manufactured EVs.

“We will provide various options to individuals who have already made preorders for another Volvo model until the arrival of the EX30,” added the spokesperson. The EX30 represents a pivotal aspect of Volvo Cars’ ongoing strategic transformation and mirrors our determination to manufacture vehicles in locations where they are marketed to the greatest extent possible.” Although specific details were not disclosed, it is speculated that Volvo may consider offering an EX40 or EX40 as a supplementary alternative. It’s worth noting that Volvo recently renamed certain models, such as the C40 Recharge (now EC40) and the XC40 Recharge (now EX40).
