The auto industry applauded the arrival of the Ford Maverick in 2021, celebrating it as a revival of compact trucks. This led to a surge of customized Mavericks that brought back the era of cool mini trucks that had faded away with models like the Chevy S-10 and Mazda B-Series, including its Ford counterpart, the Ranger. Ford even joined the trend of mini trucks with a standout creation called the Tucci Maverick, showcased at SEMA 2021. Many builders followed suit, using the Maverick as the canvas for their innovative projects. Now, you have the chance to own one of these customized Mavericks as the current owner has put it up for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
This silver 2022 Ford Maverick XL, which we’ve previously featured, is now seeking a new owner. Enthusiast Kenneth McCay is parting ways with this mini truck, offering it for sale in North Texas at a price of $40,000 with only 11,000 miles on the clock. This custom Maverick has made appearances at various shows before being listed for sale, including an impressive showcase at SEMA in 2022.

In the listing, McCay details the extensive transformations that turned the humble 2022 base model into a customized Maverick featuring tribal-themed paint, a convertible roof, 22-inch JTX forged wheels, and a bespoke audio system housed in a camper shell. The camper shell has undergone notable changes since its last appearance, now including window panels, possibly to showcase the Rockford Fosgate speaker system. Additionally, the truck boasts a custom interior with accent lighting.

However, the enhancements to the Maverick extend beyond aesthetics and audio to the mechanical components in the engine bay and chassis. The modifications include a custom engine cover and a Chassis Tech air suspension specifically designed for the Maverick by a local workshop. To achieve the desired lowered stance, the upper strut towers were modified, as McCay shared in an interview with Motor Trend. The heavily customized Maverick also features a full catback exhaust, a larger intercooler for its 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, among other performance enhancements. This modified Maverick is the EcoBoost FWD XL model, differing from the more common hybrid variant of the Ford truck.

McCay’s Maverick feels like a trip back in time to the era of mini trucks with vibrant paint jobs, reminiscent of Chevy Impalas and Monte Carlos. Prospective buyers may inquire whether the customized license plate, “1LOWMAV,” issued by the Texas DOT, will be included in the sale if the truck remains in Texas—a detail that adds to the truck’s character.
