It has been approximately six months since a new vehicle was unveiled by McLaren, indicating that it is about time for another McLaren release. Here we have the 765LT Spider, which, for those acquainted with the products of the company, is the convertible edition of McLaren’s 765LT, a model that stands out as a more high-performance variation of the 720S supercar.

Limited to a mere 765 units, just like its coupe counterpart, the most recent Spider from McLaren showcases a retractable hardtop capable of opening or closing in 11 seconds, reaching speeds of up to 31 mph. The inclusion of a convertible roof also equates to an additional 108 pounds of weight compared to the 765LT coupe. Nevertheless, this automobile does come with a powered rear window that can function independently from the aforementioned hardtop, allowing the entrance of noise emanating from its quad-exit exhaust system.

When considering engine performance, the 765LT is propelled by McLaren’s 4.0-liter, flat-planeA high-revving, twin-turbo V8 generating 755 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Accelerating to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds, completing the quarter-mile in a flat 10 seconds, and reaching a top speed of 205 mph, this stands as McLaren’s most dominating convertible ever.

The Senna, by comparison, achieves 60 mph in a mere 2.8 seconds. Oh, please.

Despite housing a potent powerhouse, the 765LT Spider possesses various other advantages. Weighing 3,060 pounds, McLaren’s latest Longtail convertible sheds 176 pounds compared to the 720S Spider. Weight reduction was achieved by incorporating titanium for the exhaust system – 40% lighter than steel, using “Formula One-grade” nickel chrome for the final drive in the seven-speed automatic transmission, and utilizing thinner glass. The extensive presence of carbon aero components across the bodywork and a dynamic rear wing tailored to consider roof positioning result in a 25% increase in downforce when compared to the 720S Spider.

An enhanced lower and wider front track, custom springs and dampers, lightweight wheels encased in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, and a reengineered linked-hydraulic suspension system all contribute to the 765LT Spider’s extraordinary cornering abilities. Furthermore, carbon-ceramic brakes paired with calipers sourced from the McLaren Senna enhance stopping power. According to McLaren, the ultra-strong carbon monocoque chassis of the base model eliminates the need for additional bracing upon roof removal.

In keeping with the tradition of enhancing already fast cars, the interior of the 765LT Spider features carbon seats, a carbon center tunnel, an exposed carbon floor, and abundant Alcantara material. Sacrificing the stereo and air conditioning for further weight reduction (and elevated respect on track days), although they can be reinstated at no additional expense.

With a starting price of $382,500, the McLaren 765LT Spider is available for sale until the end of the year. While there are still allocations open for 2022 models, they are filling up rapidly, as informed by a spokesperson to The Drive. They advise interested buyers to contact their local dealer promptly. So, take action and secure those McLarens, folks.
