In the past, cars operated in a straightforward manner, often with a manual switch for overdrive. Nowadays, vehicles are equipped with a plethora of diverse driving modes, all easily accessible at the push of a button. The forthcoming flagship Lamborghini model takes it a step further by offering 13 distinct modes to customize the driving experience to your exact preferences.
The upcoming Lamborghini model is currently referred to as the Lamborghini LB744. It merges a brand-new 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine with a hybrid powertrain containing three motors. Two of these motors propel the front wheels, while the third is integrated into the car’s 8-speed dual-clutch transmission positioned at the rear. Typically, a Lamborghini hypercar would house the gearbox in the tunnel, but in this instance, the space is allocated to accommodate the car’s lithium-ion battery.
A notable feature of the LB744 is its ability to operate exclusively on electric power in Città mode. Named after the Italian term for city, this mode provides 180 horsepower in an all-electric, all-wheel-drive configuration. Designed for comfort and daily driving, it also serves as a viable option in European cities enforcing strict bans on combustion engine vehicles. Should the battery deplete, the V12 engine can swiftly recharge it within minutes. While the exact electric-only range remains unspecified, a dashboard image released by Lamborghini suggests a range of 200 km (124 miles) when the battery is fully charged.
For a more conventional Lamborghini driving experience, drivers can switch to Strada mode. This mode is ideal for when you desire the V12 engine’s power without aggressive driving intentions. It offers 874 horsepower from the powertrain and is well-suited for grand tours.
Sport mode ramps up the intensity, boosting power output to 895 hp. In this mode, the suspension and transmission are optimized for heightened responsiveness, and Lamborghini claims that the V12 engine’s sound reaches its most exhilarating levels. On the other hand, enthusiasts seeking track performance will gravitate towards Corsa mode, which maximizes all settings and unlocks the full 1001 hp potential of the drivetrain. Corsa mode also includes a launch control feature and offers the option to disable ESC for skilled drivers.
In addition to the aforementioned modes, drivers can also choose from Recharge, Hybrid, and Performance sub-modes, which modify the primary modes. Recharge prioritizes replenishing the battery by maximizing regenerative braking, while Performance emphasizes speed and power. Hybrid falls between the two extremes. In total, Lamborghini offers thirteen unique drive modes, potentially including the ESC-off option in Corsa mode.
Thirteen drive modes may seem excessive, but Lamborghini has simplified them by categorizing them into four primary modes that can be further customized as desired. Most notably, this high-performance hypercar can also function as a quiet electric vehicle when the situation demands modesty over extravagant displays of power.
