Recently redesigned for the year 2021, the Genesis G70 luxury sedan was anticipated to maintain its manual transmission option, hence our previous feature titled, “2021 Genesis G70 Maintains Manual Transmission for Another Year” from March. Nevertheless, it appears that the chances of encountering
a manual transmission option for the 2021 model are now close to none, as it will be discontinued in 2022.
A recent article by
CarBuzz revealed that the 2021 Genesis G70 will no longer be offered with a manual transmission, exclusively featuring the eight-speed automatic transmission instead. The decision to discontinue the manual transmission did not come as a surprise, as the
demand for this variant was notably low, with minimal customer interest.
Upon reaching out to Genesis for confirmation, a spokesperson mentioned that technically, the 2.0T 2021 Genesis G70 still has the option of a manual transmission, although very few units have actually been produced. However, it is highly likely that the availability of such models is close to none.
Despite the seeming inconsistency, the spokesperson did confirm that the manual transmission will indeed be phased out for the 2022 model year.
“Technically, there are some remaining G70 2.0T manual versions, if any were already in production (which is highly doubtful),” stated a representative from Genesis to The Drive. “The chances of finding a 2021 manual transmission version are incredibly minimal. The discontinuation is then set for the 2022 model year.”
At the current pace, it seems that manual transmissions, front-wheel-drive coupes, and budget-friendly pickup trucks may become obsolete by the time 2022 arrives.
