Looking to experience the breeze in your hair and elevate your seating position? Buyers with specific preferences seeking a convertible SUV are facing limited options currently. However, Fiat is set to broaden their choices as reports confirm the creation of a convertible model of its 500X compact crossover.
As per Automotive News Europe, FCA plans to introduce three new SUVs to its European series. Among them are the Alfa Romeo Tonale positioned below the Stelvio, a Maserati Grecale based on the Stelvio below the Levante, and, yes, a Fiat 500X Cabrio serving as a convertible variant of Fiat’s iconic city car designed by Frank Stephenson.

News made public to suppliers just recently reveals the open-roof 500X will roll off the production lines in Melfi, Italy alongside the regular 500X, Jeep Renegade, and Compass. Its primary competitor, the Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet, boasts a two-door layout with a retractable roof, akin in design to esteemed convertible SUVs like the Range Rover Evoque and the once-unbelievable Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet.
In contrast, the 500X Cabrio is set to uphold the standard 500X’s four-door configuration. As outlined by suppliers speaking to AN Europe, the Cabrio will essentially be a 500X with a convertible roof, requiring no superfluous alterations. Specifically, the side body panels, doors, and door frames will remain consistent with the regular 500X, with the primary changes being the replacement of the roof and rear window with a folding soft top similar to the two-door 500’s Cabrio model.
Rumors also suggest a mild-hybrid 500X version will be unveiled this year.
The question of whether the 500X Cabrio will reach U.S. shores remains unanswered. We contacted Fiat for clarification, however, a representative chose not to “comment on speculation regarding future products.”
