In the pursuit of outdoing the KO2, BFGoodrich directed efforts towards treadwear, durability, and snow grip for the KO3.
To bolster durability and extend lifespan, BFGoodrich introduced a new tread design and all-terrain compound for the KO3. The incorporation of newly engineered 3D-locking sipes is poised to deliver more uniform wear compared to its predecessor. Nevertheless, the KO3 upholds the same 50,000-mile warranty as the KO2.
In terms of resilience, the KO3 prioritizes sidewall safeguarding. To shield against punctures while navigating off-road trails, BFGoodrich reconfigured the side sipes at the tread periphery. These sipes are now wider and deeper, promoting the deflection of objects rather than penetration into the sidewall.
Regarding snow traction, the KO2 possessed a Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake severe snow rating, further enhanced in the KO3 with a redesigned serrated shoulder and “Mud-Phobic” bars to amplify grip on both muddy and snowy terrains.
A noticeable omission is the lack of noise improvement mentioned by BFGoodrich, a concern I had with the KO2s due to their inherent loudness. Yet, the clamor of aggressive all-terrain tires is a given, making this a minor reservation. Enthusiasts of off-road escapades will gleam with joy knowing that BFGoodrich isn’t revamping the formula for the KO3, but rather enhancing it incrementally in pivotal aspects, perfecting their preferred tire.
