The Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 is set to compete in its final race this Sunday during the season finale of the British GT Championship at Donington Park. This event will mark the conclusion of the factory-supported racing career for the V12 Vantage GT3, which first debuted in 2012 as a successor to the DBRS9.
Over its six-year run, the V12 Vantage GT3 has achieved impressive milestones, including 22 wins (with six occurring in 2018), 26 pole positions, and 63 podium finishes. It has also secured three drivers’ championships and two team championships. There remains an opportunity to enhance these statistics during Sunday’s race, which will be broadcasted on the British GT Championship’s livestream.
Jonny Adam of Optimum Motorsport reflected on his experience with the V12 Vantage GT3, stating, “My journey with Aston Martin started with this car. I was the first driver to shakedown the vehicle back in 2011, and all my success in the British GT has come in a car recognized as the gold standard in GT racing.”
He also added, “The current Vantage has excelled in all its forms, taking me to the pinnacle of success at Le Mans in 2017. There’s still a long way to go before the finish line at Donington on Sunday, and anything can happen. However, my teammate Flick Haigh and I would love to send off this ‘old lady’ in style.”
The V12 Vantage GT3 is set to be succeeded by a new model based on the current generation Vantage, known as the Vantage GT3, while the V8-powered Vantage GT4 will be replaced by the Vantage GT4, which is expected to debut in 2019. Both new variants will feature V8 engines, some of which will be twin-turbocharged, replacing the beloved naturally-aspirated roar that racing enthusiasts have come to adore from the outgoing models.
