Recent speculation about the discontinuation of traditional gasoline-powered Acura models appears to have been premature. According to an article by Automotive News on Sunday, the 2023 Integra is set to be Acura’s ultimate gasoline-driven vehicle before the company’s complete shift towards electric cars. Several other automotive publications echoed similar reports. However, Acura, when approached for comments on Tuesday, expressed some skepticism.
“The Automotive News article mentioned is speculative and lacks confirmation of our plans or official statements. While we cannot provide details on future product strategies, it should be noted that the recently launched 2023 Integra will not mark the end of Acura’s new internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Acura is poised to play a pivotal role in Honda’s transition to electric propulsion. Notably, as revealed last autumn, Acura will spearhead American Honda’s shift towards electrification and digital transformation. The journey kicks off with the debut of an all-new fully electric Acura SUV scheduled for 2024,” said a spokesperson from Acura, as reported by The Drive.

Derived from the latest Honda Civic Si, the 2023 Acura Integra signifies a spirited return to the brand’s roots, which had leaned towards more luxury offerings in recent times. The enthusiast feedback on the Integra has predominantly been positive thus far. This model is propelled solely by a traditional gasoline engine, and the top-selling Acura SUVs may require upgrades before making a complete transition to electric vehicles only.
Clearly, Honda and Acura have outlined intentions for electric vehicles in the U.S.; however, neither brand appears ready to bid farewell to the internal combustion engine at this juncture. Acura has not disclosed detailed plans for forthcoming electric vehicles beyond the aforementioned all-electric Acura SUV, making it challenging to predict the timeline for the brand’s transition away from ICE or visualize its roadmap for electrification. Nevertheless, it is reassuring to know that there is still a future, albeit modest, for combustion engine-powered Acuras as they progress.
