After approximately a two-year delay, the Tesla Cybertruck seems to be nearing production as prototypes are now being spotted on the roads. These sightings are providing us with the first glimpses of the functional examples of Tesla’s highly anticipated pickup truck, even though the impressions are not entirely favorable. One particular sighting included images of the cargo space, showcasing unique design elements that may prompt truck owners to raise questions.
A Facebook user named Paul Yeh captured photos of the Tesla Cybertruck parked in a residential area. These are not the final production trucks as initially reported; they are pre-production models referred to, in Silicon Valley jargon, as “release candidates” or beta versions. Despite only a few images available, it’s evident that the cargo space of the production model will differ significantly from the original concept.
Upon observation, one of the striking details is a panel on the bed floor with bolt holes, potentially covering a compartment for a full-size spare tire. Additionally, the bed has inclined sides, tapering from bottom to top, in contrast to the vertical sides of the concept model. This design choice could restrict the width of loads or pose stability challenges for wide cargo during turns. Moreover, excessively wide loads could strain the bed walls, which appear to be possibly structural, although confirmation is pending. Furthermore, the absence of bedliner coating might leave the walls susceptible to scratches.
