  • A new lighting treatment is introduced for BMW’s i4 electric vehicle
  • There is an increase in range for the single-motor variant, but a decrease for the dual-motor version
  • Prices have gone up, but only in the hundreds range, not thousands

Presently available, the 2025 BMW i4 features slightly updated exterior design and interior finishes, along with a potential range enhancement for select models.

Both the i4 and the associated 2025 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe petrol model come with new front lights, as well as rear lights that can be equipped with laser-lit details previously showcased on the M4 CSL, a special edition of the petrol-powered M4 2-door coupe. Fresh exterior hues and wheel designs can also be found across the lineup.

Internally, the i4 showcases a new steering wheel layout and additional interior finish possibilities. It retains a curved display housing a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 14.9-inch touchscreen, running the BMW iDrive 8.5 infotainment system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto continue to be standard features as well.

The i4 supports the Plug & Charge protocol, capable of recognizing accounts from up to five networks. BMW has been streamlining more EV chargers into a cohesive interface for its clientele, a strategy that will persist in 2025 with the inclusion of Tesla Supercharger access. The automaker has announced its adoption of the Tesla North American Charging Standard (NACS) port commencing next year, while also providing adapters for current vehicles.

The base model from 2024, the single-motor rear-wheel-drive i4 eDrive35, is absent from the 2025 i4 configuration. The eDrive40 stands as the most economical model, beginning at $58,475 plus the obligatory $1,175 destination fee. This constitutes a $600 rise from the equivalent 2024 model, but $5,100 more than the 2024 eDrive35 model.

The eDrive40 retains a single-motor powertrain, with the same 335 hp output as before, yet BMW now boasts up to 318 miles of range compared to the previous 301 miles. BMW also maintains the availability of a dual-motor all-wheel-drive xDrive40, priced at $63,475 (a $700 jump). Like the eDrive40, power output (396 hp) stays unchanged. However, BMW now specifies a reduced maximum range of 287 miles, down from the prior 307 miles.

At the top of the range once more is the i4 M50 performance edition. This dual-motor variant maintains its 536 hp rating—unchanged from 2024. The projected range decreases slightly to 267 miles, while the price sees a $1,000 increment, now at $71,875.

Even though the i4 and other existing BMW EVs share their foundations with combustion models, the carmaker is gearing up to introduce its Neue Klasse range of specialized EVs built on a novel framework, commencing with an electric SUV set to enter production for Europe in 2025.
