The GMC Sierra EV, GMC’s take on the electric pickup truck launched after the Chevy Silverado, shares many similarities with its counterpart. However, there are distinctive features that set it apart. Visually, the GMC offers a more traditional appearance compared to the Chevy model. An upscale Denali version, catering to luxury truck enthusiasts, is the initial trim option available. Notably, the Sierra EV Denali generates up to 754 horsepower, surpassing the Silverado’s peak output of 664 hp, enabling acceleration to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. Both trucks share an impressive range of 400 miles.

Much like the Hummer EV, the Sierra EV will kick off with an exclusive Edition 1 trim that outshines even the Denali. It will feature four-wheel steering with Crabwalk, similar to the Hummer EV. Reservations for the Edition 1 are currently open on GMC’s website, with deliveries set to start in “early 2024.”

Comparatively, the Sierra EV shares many specifications with the Silverado EV. While it showcases new exterior design elements, it retains features like the multi-function midgate and frunk that are also present in the Chevy model. The midgate allows for the transportation of items up to approximately 11 feet long in the truck bed. The GMC maintains almost the same maximum torque, slightly edging out at 785 foot-pounds. This emphasis on performance is a defining trait of GMC vehicles.

The maximum towing capacity and payload stand at 9,500 pounds and 1,300 pounds, respectively. With a rapid charging capability of 350 kilowatts, the truck can add up to 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. Additionally, it can provide charging for another EV at a rate of 10.2 kW.

A total of 10 exterior outlets, including both 120-volt and 240-volt options, are available to sustain an average household during a power outage. GMC asserts that the truck’s substantial battery can power essential devices for up to 21 days, with usage variation based on the connected appliances.

The base Sierra EV model, named “Elevation,” is priced around $50,000. Positioned as the truck on the left in the accompanying image, specific details regarding its range, power, and amenities have not been disclosed yet. In comparison, the base Silverado WT starts at $39,900. It is anticipated that the truck, being built with a domestically produced battery, may qualify for tax incentives.

Enthusiasts seeking off-road capabilities can look forward to the AT4 trim, slated for a 2025 release as a 2024 model year variant. Positioned as the truck in the middle of the provided image, precise details of its specifications remain undisclosed, but it is expected to offer comparable performance to the Trail Boss Silverado EV.

Thus far, only the interior images of the Denali have been shown. Its user interface closely resembles that of the Hummer EV. Fortunately, there is a physical dial for adjusting volume and climate control settings alongside the expansive 16.8-inch-diagonal touchscreen.

The advanced Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system from GM, which recently received a major update, will likely be available on multiple trims, even while towing. This feature will enhance the overall experience of the top-tier Denali’s interior, which boasts premium elements such as real open-pore wood, aluminum, stainless steel, and other high-quality materials. GMC has ingeniously incorporated wireless phone charging through a slim piece of wood veneer. How delightful is that.

A panoramic glass roof, similar to what’s available in the Silverado EV, is an optional feature. Among other standout characteristics are the air ride suspension that can adjust the truck’s height by up to two inches, variable driving modes, one-pedal driving, and adjustable regeneration activated by a paddle located behind the steering wheel. Like the Hummer EV, a variety of camera angles—specifically 14 in this instance—are provided to assist in navigating the truck’s substantial proportions.

Further details such as GVWR, pricing for the AT4 trim, and other pertinent information will be disclosed closer to the launch date. Rest assured, as soon as more information becomes available, you will be promptly informed. In the meantime, if acquiring a Hummer EV proves challenging, reserving this truck could be a favorable alternative.
