The cutting-edge Bugatti La Voiture Noire—translating to The Black Car—is the most recent ultra-exclusive vehicle to be crafted by the prestigious manufacturer. According to new images unveiled by the French automaker on Motor1, the one-of-a-kind coupe has been recently put through its paces on the track.

The La Voiture Noire is designed to offer a luxurious grand-touring experience based on the Bugatti Chiron platform. While it boasts the same 8.0 liter, 16-cylinder quad-turbo engine as the Chiron, the transmission, all-wheel-drive setup, and suspension have all been fine-tuned for a more comfortable ride rather than pure performance. However, with an impressive 1500 horsepower at your disposal, there’s no doubt that it packs a serious punch from a standstill.

This hypercar is a homage to Bugatti’s 1930s masterpiece, the Type 57 SC Atlantic. Only four iterations of the Atlantic were ever constructed, with the second model, famously named La Voiture Noire due to its dark paint, mysteriously disappearing post-1938 during the chaos of World War II. Boasting 197 horsepower from a 3.3 liter inline six engine, it was truly ahead of its time in terms of performance.

The new vehicle serves as a tribute, with design elements paying homage to the past, albeit with modern flair due to the mid-engine layout. Notable features include the prolonged front end reminiscent of the Bugatti Divo, the distinctive all-black exterior, and six exhaust outlets inspired by the Atlantic’s five, as confirmed by Bugatti’s design chief Achim Anscheidt, who emphasized that “They unmistakably indicate that this is not an electric vehicle.”

The manufacturer states that an extensive 65,000 hours of engineering effort were dedicated to developing this hypercar, a substantial commitment for a bespoke creation, particularly considering its Chiron underpinnings. Rough estimations suggest a total expenditure of $6.5 million on development, assuming an approximate hourly cost of $100 encompassing labor, equipment, and infrastructure. Nonetheless, the vehicle was sold for a hefty sum of around $12.5 million USD, ensuring a significant profit margin.

In compliance with EU regulations, Bugatti has also disclosed the fuel efficiency metrics for the potent coupe. Anticipate a consumption of 22.32 liters of premium fuel per hundred kilometers on a combined driving cycle, or a higher 43.33 liters when navigating low-speed traffic in your La Voiture Noire. This translates to 10.5 mpg and 5.43 mpg respectively, should you, the exclusive owner of the La Voiture Noire, be perusing this information. You’re most welcome.

The official launch of the vehicle is anticipated in the forthcoming weeks, with more images and videos expected to be unveiled in due course. As it’s unlikely that the solitary La Voiture Noire will be witnessed in person, Bugatti has been actively engaged lately, participating in jet races and clocking substantial mileage on their development prototypes. The anticipation for their next creation is high.
