Aston Martin and the Italian coachbuilder Zagato revealed on Wednesday their intention to produce a “continuation series” of the DB4 GT Zagato, which will introduce 19 new vehicles to the market.

The DB4 GT Zagato, originally commissioned in 1960, was a lighter, high-performance version of the DB4 GT series. Aston Martin aimed to manufacture 25 of these cars, but interest waned after the 19th vehicle, resulting in six unsold body shells. Over the next 40 years, these leftover shells were eventually converted into six additional Zagato models—four as part of a second series and two in a third series. The decision to limit this new continuation run to 19 cars appears to reflect the original number produced.

The addition of these 19 continuation cars will increase the total count of DB4 GT Zagatos to 44 from the initial 25. However, they are unlikely to diminish the value of the original models, as the continuation cars will not be street-legal and are specifically designed for track use, similar to the original Le Mans race cars. All continuation models will be manufactured at Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell, the same location where the original DB4 was produced 60 years ago.

Each continuation DB4 GT Zagato will carry a price tag of £6 million ($7.9 million). This hefty cost includes a bonus: buyers will also receive a DBS Superleggera, uniquely styled by Zagato and named the DBS GT Zagato. It is expected to feature the same powerful 715-horsepower twin-turbo V12 engine, ensuring it will turn heads wherever it goes.

Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer commented on the collaboration, stating, “The partnership between Aston Martin and Zagato is one of the most fruitful and enduring in the automotive world. With Zagato celebrating its centenary next year, what better way to honor this milestone and our longstanding partnership than by creating these 19 pairs of cars? As an engineer, I typically say my favorite Aston Martin is the next one, but I must admit it’s hard to think of a more exceptional two-car garage than this!”

Andrea Zagato, head of Zagato, expressed his pride in the partnership, saying, “Great Britain has always appreciated our work. I feel honored and proud that Aston Martin has chosen to celebrate our long-standing collaboration with this unique DBZ Centenary Collection.”.
