Earlier this week, a man was apprehended after breaking into a residence, stealing a key fob for a Tesla, and driving the vehicle from Escondido to Wildomar, California. Unbeknownst to him, the car’s owner had the capability to track the Tesla’s location, which he promptly utilized.

The day following the burglary, the Tesla owner reportedly alerted local law enforcement and used his tracking app to locate his stolen car, discovering it parked over 40 miles away in a shopping area in Wildomar, California.

As detailed in the police report, “Officers spotted the stolen vehicle as it entered the northbound I-15 freeway. A traffic enforcement stop was enacted at the I-15 freeway and Baxter Road, leading to the driver’s arrest without incident.”

The report also indicated that the driver, identified as 29-year-old Ryan Charles Barton, a resident of Wildomar, was arrested for possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools. He was subsequently taken to the Southwest Detention Center for processing.

While the future may hold uncertainties, it seems there will always be foolish criminals.
