The grand revelation of the Tesla Cybertruck was highly anticipated, making it one of the most awaited car intros in history. Whether adored or abhorred, Elon Musk’s angular pickup truck excels in drawing attention. So, why did the unveiling fail to mention the enigmatic “Wade Mode” of the Cybertruck, later discovered by X (formerly known as Twitter) user Nic Cruz Patane?

Patane shared a snapshot showing what appears to be an off-road vehicle settings panel on the Cybertruck’s console screen. Included are various setting options like “Off-Road Mode,” another mode possibly named “Articulation Mode” obscured by Patane’s finger, “Handling Balance,” “Stability Assist,” and the intriguing “Wade Mode.”

The description of the last mentioned mode states: “Enhances ride height and pressurizes battery when traversing water bodies.”

During the Cybertruck’s debut, no mention was made of its capacity to pressurize the battery for water crossings. Last year, Elon Musk asserted that the Cybertruck could float and operate as a vessel capable of traversing “rivers, lakes & even seas that aren’t too choppy.” Questions linger on how the Cybertruck can pressurize its battery, the reasons behind it, and whether it can actually float enough to traverse a river. Nevertheless, the mode’s visibility on the screen is intriguing.

For comparison, the electric Rivian R1T pickup can navigate in three feet of water without any mention of battery pressurization. Of course, to traverse deep waters, the R1T needs to engage its off-road driving mode to elevate the vehicle’s stance, yet it doesn’t address battery pressurization. Typically, electric vehicle batteries are already sealed from water, hence the Cybertruck’s purported on-demand pressurization raises queries.

Another intriguing setting highlighted in the image is the Handling Balance slider, enabling adjustments from front to rear. Could this pertain to the torque distribution within the electric powertrain? It would be fascinating if owners could precisely select the torque split between the axles, potentially aiding in specific off-road scenarios.

Perhaps as this image circulates further, Tesla or Musk will provide insights and clarification regarding the Cybertruck’s wade mode and its battery pressurization mechanism. It may lead to revelations about its alleged seafaring abilities as well.
