Tesla and aftermarket accessory manufacturer EVject have reportedly reached a consensus. In an email recently sent by EVject to its customers, the company announced a recall of its V1.0 and V1.1 Escape Connectors, which will be replaced with the new V1.2 connectors featuring built-in thermal protection.
Previously, Tesla had filed a lawsuit against EVject, claiming that the company’s product—which allows drivers to disconnect from a Supercharger without exiting their vehicle—was hazardous due to the absence of overtemperature protection. Tesla aimed to prohibit the import of EVject Escape Connectors into the United States as part of the legal action.

The lawsuit sparked mixed reactions among members of the EV community, many of whom encouraged Tesla to collaborate with EVject, highlighting the importance of the accessory in ensuring a sense of safety during Supercharging sessions. In response to these concerns, Tesla CEO Elon Musk declared he would investigate the situation. EVject’s recent announcement suggests that Musk’s inquiry has yielded positive results.
EVject mentioned in its communication to customers that it aims to maintain a strong partnership with Tesla. The company will be recalling the V1.0 and V1.1 models and transitioning to the V1.2 Escape Connector, which satisfies Tesla’s requirements. The new connector is expected to begin shipping later this year.

“The EVject Escape Connector is evolving to meet the latest safety standards. Our upcoming version will feature advanced thermal sensors to enhance safety during charging. These improvements will help prevent potential hazards and ensure optimal charging performance. The upcoming version (v1.2) will include: (1) Advanced thermal sensors for enhanced safety; (2) Improved temperature monitoring; and (3) Compliance with the latest charging recommendations,” the company added in its statement.
Customers who purchased the V1.0 and V1.1 Escape Connectors will be eligible for a complimentary upgrade to the V1.2 version. EVject is requesting that customers return their V1.0 and V1.1 connectors, after which they will receive credit toward the purchase of a V1.2 Escape Connector once it becomes available.

“Per Tesla’s request, we have discontinued the sale of V1.0 and V1.1 and are offering a complimentary upgrade to EVject Supervised V1.2, which includes built-in thermal protection, and is compatible with all current Tesla charging options and vehicles,” EVject noted in its email.
Tesla Charging confirmed EVject’s recall of the Escape Connectors in a recent post on its official social media account on X, stating, “Tesla and OEMs will keep working with the industry to provide safe adapters and develop common sense regulatory standards.”
