It must be understood by valet parking attendants and car dealership technicians that numerous new high-performance vehicles from General Motors, such as the eighth-generation Corvette, can come equipped with a built-in dashboard camera known as the Performance Data Recorder. Joyriding in a 2023 C8 Corvette is ill-advised due to this feature, yet that didn’t deter a valet at an Alabama airport from taking a customer’s brand-new Stingray for a spin.

The employee was caught in the act, and what made matters worse was that the car was fresh off the lot and was driven well beyond the recommended RPM limits during the joyride. The car’s owner, Tim Scherer, understandably expressed his displeasure.

This incident occurred recently at the Birmingham airport, as reported by the local news station WVTM 13. Scherer left his car with the valet before heading for his flight as usual. Upon his return, he noticed that the odometer had gone from 300 miles to 304. Out of curiosity, he checked the car’s PDR and discovered that the valet had taken a short drive around the airport, with the RPMs significantly exceeding the recommended limit.

000 rpm during the initial 500 miles of ownership. While the necessity of this guideline is up for debate, the manufacturer does base warranty claims on this instruction. In the video, the valet can be seen exceeding the limit multiple times. Additionally, the driver can be heard boasting on the interior audio recording about subjecting other cars, including the "top surgeon in Birmingham's McLaren," to similar treatment.
