Earlier this year, Acura delighted many Honda enthusiasts by reintroducing the Integra name to the market. Now, to further enhance the excitement, it appears that an Acura Integra Type S is currently in development and could serve as the spiritual successor to the beloved Integra Type R.

In a recent video by Allcarnews, fresh spy images showcase a camouflaged Acura undergoing testing in public, striking a resemblance to the new Civic Type R. Acura notably secured the trademark for the “Type S” name earlier this year. By putting these pieces together, it strongly suggests the upcoming Acura Integra Type S may be based on the new Civic Type R.

While the Acura test mule in the photos is mostly obscured by black camouflage wrapping, a defining feature that hints at its Type S nature is the presence of triple exhaust pipes, reminiscent of the design seen in the Honda Civic Type R, suggesting a shared powertrain.

If the powertrain remains unchanged, the Acura Integra Type S is expected to house a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine capable of producing 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Similar to the Honda, this engine is likely to be paired with a six-speed manual transmission and drive the front wheels exclusively, ruling out the possibility of a CVT for the Type S variant.

One noticeable departure from the Honda Civic Type R is the absence of its prominent wing on the Integra Type S. Instead, the Acura may opt for a more understated rear lip spoiler, providing a mature aesthetic appeal.

This sophisticated design approach may extend to the interior as well. While the standard Integra shares similarities with the current Civic Si in terms of interior design, the Type S variant could draw inspiration from the Civic Type R, featuring upscale elements such as a metallic shift knob, Alcantara steering wheel, and enhanced seating.

Although Acura has not officially confirmed the existence of an Integra Type S, indications such as the triple exhaust pipes, seemingly larger Brembo brake calipers, and the “Type S” trademark suggest a high likelihood of its arrival.
