Since its release, Ford’s compact Maverick pickup truck has captured the attention of many with its straightforward and functional design. The positive reception from both owners and critics highlights its affordability and pleasant driving experience. Furthermore, its adaptability to modifications has impressed enthusiasts, as various Ford components can be easily integrated. Recently, an owner discovered the possibility of enhancing the Maverick by replacing its rotary shift dial with the shifter from any 2021-2023 F-150.
Similar to many modern vehicles, Ford opted for a rotary dial on the center console for gear shifting. While this choice is user-friendly, cost-effective, and minimizes clutter in the cabin, some drivers have expressed concerns in online forums and Reddit. Criticisms revolve around the ease of unintentionally selecting the wrong gear and accidental shifting by merely brushing against the dial with a leg or hand.
To address these concerns, member Fast Mavericks from the Maverick Truck Club decided to switch out the rotary shifter with the T-handle shifter from an F-150. With minimal modifications to the plastic center console, the F-150’s shifter and its plastic shroud were seamlessly installed. As both shifters are electric and share the same connection plug, the swap was effortless. No software adjustments were deemed necessary. Additionally, the F-150’s shifter offers a manual shift feature, potentially enhancing the driving experience.
This modification adds to the diverse range of plug-and-play Ford upgrades accessible to Maverick owners. According to Fast Mavericks, their vehicle boasts enhancements such as a Lincoln Corsair 2.3-liter turbocharged engine, a Ford Ranger’s turbocharger, Focus RS brakes, an Explorer ST digital gauge cluster, and a Focus ST steering wheel.
Enthusiasts should be thrilled about modifications like these, illustrating the extensive range of customization possible with plug-and-play Ford parts.
