Simply adore minor damages and imperfections…

Occasionally, I browse through the discounted section at motion to check out their offerings. These two items immediately caught my attention.

Primary tank:

I’ve forever desired a Sturmtiger since it was the initial vehicle I opted to construct from the ground up for paintball skirmishes in 1/6th scale. I was reluctant to splurge due to the tendency of replacing electronics in Torro/Taigen tanks. Then, lo and behold, one surfaced in Motion RC’s scratched and dented assortment the other day. It mentioned a few missing/damaged parts (none were found), absence of smoke fluid (which I don’t use anyway), a couple of minor scratches/marks (only one visible on the front that’s barely noticeable on camera), a damaged wooden crate (where the hinge screws had loosened), and a slight issue with barrel movement (although it still functions). Despite these, all other tank features work perfectly. I was apprehensive about the mortar loading crane being damaged or absent, but it was well-preserved and complete. Priced at $459 but discounted to $359 including shipping. A $100 reduction due to a barrel issue that I can rectify for less than $100.

Secondary tank:

TonDE full metal Churchill. Mentioned some missing plastic components and the barrel (main barrel present, but the MG barrel missing and no other missing pieces were found). Also, noted damage to the front machine gun and some other plastic parts. Fires and lights up, but doesn’t move (no other damaged parts besides the MG and after reassembling the tank, it runs smoothly). The “missing” MG gunner’s hatch was actually in the bag of parts and just needed to be repositioned. It snapped back in place easily. Priced at $389 but discounted to $259 including shipping. A $130 markdown for essentially a broken MG barrel that I can replace with a small amount of fiber optic rod and a brass tube piece I already have for mere cents.

Overall impression:

For a total savings of $230, I’d deem it a successful haul. Placed the order on July 31st and both items arrived this morning via Fedex, making it a swift three-day journey from order to delivery. Frankly, I doubt Motion’s return team thoroughly inspects these items or verifies the customer’s claims. The Sturmtiger is remarkably heavy, which suits my preferences, and maneuvers effortlessly. It still struggles with low-speed control, a drawback from not operating a Torro-powered tank since the initial version. The V3 remains inferior to HL in that aspect, though the engine sound quality surpasses HL’s. Even if the Churchill barrel had been missing, I possess the files to 3D print the entire tank. I could easily print a new barrel or any other absent parts. The all-metal Churchill appears to function excellently as well. I activated low power mode with a low brake setting and it drove beautifully. The low-speed control was impressive. I have yet to test the IR functions.

For now, they will be lined up in preparation for battle.

Fortunately, the girlfriend was away when they arrived… Attachment 2274462
