When Lexus introduced the LF-A Concept at the North American International Auto Show in 2005, it garnered both enthusiasm and doubt. Traditionally known for producing quiet vehicles wrapped in luxurious materials, Lexus faced criticism for having a lineup perceived as too plain or dull. Therefore, a sports car featuring carbon fiber and Alcantara seemed out of character and perhaps unrealistic for the brand. However, two years later, Lexus unveiled an updated LF-A Concept in Detroit to reinforce its focus on performance. This second iteration, showcased alongside the IS F sports sedan, was much more production-ready and confirmed that Lexus was indeed set to manufacture a model for sale.

That production model has since been released, but only 500 units were made worldwide, making this supercar a rare sight. With its naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V-10 generating a notable 552 horsepower, the vehicle’s full potential is seldom realized on the road, and the distinctive Yamaha-tuned exhaust is rarely heard. Its steep price tag likely contributes to its relative obscurity. So, is the LFA still a car to remember? Doug DeMuro took one for a spin to find out:
