While we wait for automakers to produce truly affordable electric vehicles (EVs), the next best option is to take advantage of discounts. With summer here, companies like Kia and Polestar are offering significant deals on their EVs, slashing thousands from the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). Notably, the 2024 Kia EV6 is experiencing its largest price reduction yet, with discounts nearing $13,000, as reported by Cars Direct. However, to qualify, buyers must select an eligible model determined by its vehicle identification number (VIN) as part of Kia’s VIN Summer Sticker Sales Event.

Through this program, buyers of the Kia EV6 can enjoy an additional incentive of $1,500 on select VINs until July 8. The campaign launched on May 10 and is currently active. This incentive can be combined with a customer cash incentive of $7,500, yielding a total potential discount of $9,000 off the sticker price. For those purchasing rather than leasing, a $500 loyalty discount can increase the overall price reduction to $9,500. Starting at $43,975, eligible pricing for the EV6 could drop to as low as $34,475.

For those unsure about committing to an EV long-term and preferring to lease the EV6, incentives are also available in states like California, Oregon, and Washington. In these regions, a 24-month lease can offer discounts up to $10,800. When combined with the VIN and loyalty bonuses, the total discount can reach as high as $12,800 off the MSRP. According to Cars Direct, the most substantial discounts are targeted at the all-wheel-drive (AWD) GT-Line models of the Kia EV, although specific mentions of the top-tier EV6 GT model, which previously had significant discounts, were absent.

In correspondence to dealers regarding the VIN bonus, Kia did not specify the specific criteria for vehicle eligibility. Therefore, results may vary. This can be likened to a VIN lottery allowing discounts between $9,500 and $12,800 based on whether the buyer is purchasing or leasing. Ultimately, the quoted amounts hinge entirely on VIN eligibility, meaning discounts might be lower than the maximum allowed under the program.

The 2024 Kia EV6 starts from the Light Short Range trim, offering a battery range of 218 to 310 miles based on the selected trim. Currently, comparable discounts are not available for the Hyundai Ioniq 5, despite its close relation to the EV6. Thus, for those seeking incentives, the Kia EV6 remains a top choice, especially if one is not keen on the updated design set to debut in the 2025 model year.
