As the seasons shift, so too do travel ambitions. Recently, RVshare conducted a survey among its renters to capture fresh perspectives on fall and holiday travel habits. Here’s what we found out.
Fall Travel Plans
- Labor Day Travel: A mere 27% of renters intended to travel during Labor Day weekend, indicating a preference for different travel times in the fall.
- Overall Fall Travel: Even with a subdued Labor Day, 77% of participants are planning to travel at some point this fall, with over half choosing shorter trips lasting less than a week.
- Frequent Fall Trips: More than half of those surveyed plan to embark on multiple trips during the fall and holiday season.
- Duration: A majority (52%) indicate that their travels this fall will be for less than one week.
Holiday Travel Decisions
- Holiday Travel Uncertainty: Approximately 25% of respondents remain undecided about their holiday travel plans, while 40% have resolved not to travel at all.
- Driving to Holiday Destinations: Most respondents (53%) expressed intentions to drive to their holiday destinations this year, as opposed to 20% who plan to fly. Interestingly, half of the participants find driving more enjoyable than other travel methods.
Factors Influencing Travel Plans
- Top Influencers: The primary factors affecting fall and holiday travel plans are cost (42%), followed by convenience (23%) and comfort (19%).
- Price Considerations: Costs associated with airline tickets, gas, and hotel accommodations are major concerns influencing travel decisions this fall.
- Domestic vs. International Travel: A notable 72% of respondents do not plan to travel internationally this fall or winter.
Interest in RV Travel
- RV Trips for the Holidays: A striking 75% of respondents would contemplate an RV trip this holiday season, either for leisure purposes or family visits.
- Preference for Road Trips: Nearly half (44%) of those surveyed are inclined to choose RV or road trip travel for their upcoming fall or holiday vacation.
Fun Insights from the Survey
- Budget Preferences: When reflecting on their travel budget preferences, 63% of respondents prefer a limited budget to travel anywhere rather than an unlimited budget for just one location.
- Travel Spirit Animals: 34% of travelers identified a Dolphin as their spirit animal due to their affinity for water, followed by a Turtle (31%) for their slow-paced nature, an Eagle (27%) for those who aim high, and just 7% chose a cat, representing a love for napping.
- What Would You Give Up?: An overwhelming 85% of participants stated they would give up Netflix for a year rather than halt their travel plans.
- Packing vs. Wi-Fi: When asked about their preference between having unlimited Wi-Fi on all flights or never needing to pack a suitcase again, the majority (65%) chose the latter, while 35% preferred unlimited Wi-Fi on flights.
These findings illustrate that despite uncertainties and challenges travelers may face, there remains a robust desire for adventure and exploration. Whether it’s a picturesque fall road trip or a snug holiday escape in an RV, individuals are eager to maximize their travel experiences this season.
