Royal Caribbean International is set to resume its visits to Labadee, Haiti, starting in October 2024, following a pause earlier this year due to increased violence and instability in the region.

Labadee, a private destination exclusively for Royal Caribbean, has been excluded from cruise itineraries since March 2024 due to escalating unrest, including a major prison break that raised safety alarms.

However, with recent improvements in the region—such as the resumption of airline services and heightened peacekeeping efforts—the cruise line is optimistic about restarting its operations.

In a communication to guests, Royal Caribbean announced, “Labadee is one of our fan-favorite private destinations, and we are thrilled to be returning to Labadee in October 2024!”

Adventure of the Seas will be the first vessel to return, arriving on October 8, 2024. This 3,807-passenger ship will embark on a 6-night Eastern Caribbean cruise from Port Canaveral, stopping in Haiti after visiting Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic and proceeding to Coco Cay, Royal Caribbean’s other private destination in the Bahamas.

Other Royal Caribbean ships, including the Freedom of the Seas and Independence of the Seas, will also make stops at Labadee in October, with the Grandeur set to follow in November.

These vessels will continue to feature Labadee in their winter Caribbean itineraries.

Royal Caribbean is the first major cruise line to return to Haiti. In contrast, its sister brand, Celebrity Cruises, will not make a return to Labadee until February 2025.

Labadee is a favorite among cruise passengers, celebrated for its stunning beaches, thrilling zip lines, and exciting water activities. The resumption of these voyages is viewed as a hopeful sign for Haiti’s tourism sector, which has faced challenges in recent years due to ongoing political instability.

The political unrest in Haiti intensified following the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021, resulting in significant upheaval and security issues, which led Royal Caribbean to suspend its visits to the country at the beginning of 2024.
