Following numerous speculations, Rimac, a manufacturer of electric hypercars, is now the primary shareholder in Bugatti, the artsy-performance automaker owned by Volkswagen. Together with support from Porsche, both companies are establishing a new entity named Bugatti-Rimac.

The brand will be overseen by Mate Rimac, the 33-year-old Croatian CEO, and will be headquartered in a new facility to be constructed in Zagreb, Croatia, in 2023, just 10 miles east of Rimac’s current headquarters in Sveta Nedelja. Bugatti will continue to function as an independent brand, producing vehicles in Molsheim, France. However, the change in ownership enables Bugatti to leverage Rimac’s engineering capabilities for joint development of future models.
