When the terrain is challenging to navigate on foot, it’s a clear sign that driving should be approached with caution. Ignoring this warning, a Lexus GX driver found themselves in need of off-road rescue experts in a situation more precarious than usual.

This incident was captured in a recent upload on YouTube by Matt’s Off Road Recovery. They were summoned to aid a stranded second-generation Lexus GX high up on a mountainous trail. Making their way up in a raised 1961 Chevrolet Corvair Lakewood wagon, the team located the Lexus near the summit, its tires deflated for better grip.

The reason why the Lexus required assistance was apparent: a steep incline, later measured at 35 degrees (equivalent to a 70 percent grade), along with a loose surface, rendered uphill driving nearly impossible. Despite the challenging conditions, Matt’s Corvair managed to gain traction and maneuvered above the Lexus to aid in relocating it to a safer position identified on a map. Although the selected area was somewhat flat, it still featured a slope of approximately 20 degrees.

Even after executing the turnaround, the mission was not without its challenges. Descending cautiously, the dusty trail caused the Corvair to skid sideways, a risky situation that could have resulted in the vehicle losing control and potentially rolling down with nothing to prevent it until reaching the base. By proceeding carefully, both vehicles made it safely down, likely leaving the Lexus owner with a substantial bill and a valuable lesson.

At least they weren’t attempting a similar feat with a Hyundai Tucson rental.
