The M2, also known as the F87 in BMW terminology, stands out as one of the premier driving machines in BMW’s current lineup and is considered by many enthusiasts to be among the best M cars ever produced. This model has garnered appreciation for reviving the essence of a sport coupe with its focus on delivering an exhilarating and interactive driving experience. The M2 is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter N55 inline-six engine that generates 365 horsepower.
While this power is more than sufficient for the compact M2, there is speculation that an upgraded version featuring the S55 twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine from the more powerful M4 could be on the way. BMW is addressing this by introducing the M2 CS (with CS standing for Coupe Sport), which will utilize a detuned variant of the M4 engine, reportedly producing 405 horsepower. Alongside the enhanced engine, features like an aluminum roof and custom sport seats will contribute to the vehicle’s lighter weight. Additionally, upgraded suspension, brakes, and wheels will ensure effective power delivery to the road.
Although details about the M2 CS have been circulating for some time, CarScoops recently revealed that orders for this high-performance version of the F87 will commence in January 2018. Interested buyers should act quickly, as production is expected to be limited to just 1,000 units.
CarScoops cites a report from the Spanish publication Motor.es, indicating that manufacturing is set to begin in March, with deliveries anticipated to start in May. To pass the time until ordering begins in January, viewers can check out a video of a lightly camouflaged M4 CS taking on the Nurburgring.
