The BMW X3 M debuted in 2019 as the performance-oriented variant of the third-generation X3. However, a recent report suggests that it may be a singular edition, as the automaker is reportedly not planning to release an M version for the newly introduced fourth-generation crossover. According to sources cited by BMWBlog, BMW has abandoned plans for a new X3 M derived from the latest G45-generation 2025 X3. This news follows reports indicating that BMW will also not continue the X4, the sportier, coupe-style counterpart to the X3.

For those seeking a speedy compact crossover from BMW, there is still hope with the continuing X3 M50. This model is powered by the B58 straight-six engine, previously known as the X3 M40i, delivering 393 horsepower and accelerating to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. It comes equipped with features like a sport suspension, variable sport steering, M Sport brakes, and an M Sport differential.

The previous generation of the X3 M utilized the more powerful S58 engine, generating 503 horsepower in its Competition variant and achieving 60 mph in a remarkable 3.7 seconds, effectively making it a more rugged version of the M3.

The decision to discontinue the X3 M appears to pave the way for an electric iX3 M, which is expected to offer "at least 600 hp" and will be built on BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture.

BMW has been contacted for comments, and updates will be provided when more information becomes available.
